Then the teacher will give examples of things that are the same and things that are different and write them down on the board. Procedures: 1.The teacher will introduce the topic in the anticipatory set- going over the vocabulary 2.The teacher will introduce the book We Are All Alike…We Are All Different by Cheltenham Elementary Kindergartners 3.Read Aloud 4.The teacher will show a variety of pictures to the students of children/families from the past and from the present and they will go over some things that are the same and different. 5.The students will pick two pictures (one of past and one of present) 6.They will glue the pictures to their creative writing worksheet 7.The students will then write one sentence of something that is the same and one sentence of something that is different about the pictures. This should be done individually but the teacher will give them the writing prompt (One thing that is the same is…. One thing that is different is…) Modification **If students are struggling with sentences, they can just write the one thing that is different and the one thing that is the same instead of the whole sentence **Or they can write one sentence and explain the other one to the teacher **If students are really struggling, they can do the activity in groups Assessment/Evaluation: *The formative assessment for this lesson is that students will be able to understand similarities and differences in pictures from the past to the present. This will be in the form of their writing activity. The teacher will make sure there are two sentences and that they make sense with their chosen pictures. This is an important assessment/strategy because students need to see that things change over time but there are also some things that are very similar.
