This is a story of a young boy who realizes as he gets older, things around him are always changing. Let's follow Jeremy on his journey through figuring out what changes and what stays the same!
Lesson Five: All About Me Timeline Essential Question: “How are the past and the present different?” Sub Question: How do we connect the past, present, and future? Grade Level: Kindergarten Time Frame: 1 class period; 10 min for the read aloud, 15 min for activity **This can be integrated into writing as well so the students have time to finish their assessment Standard: SS.K–2.H.1 Understand people construct knowledge of the past from multiple and various types of sources. Understand timelines- Students will need to understand that timelines show the order of when things happen Objective: After listening to a read aloud, students will be able to draw pictures of their life from past to present to future and be able to write a sentence about each one Materials: 1.“When I was Five” by Arthur Howard 2.All About Me Timeline 3.Crayons, makers, pencils Vocabulary: Timeline: Tells the order of events from past to present to future. (refer to the very first activity they did in the unit, use this as an example) **Review Past, Present, Future **Introduce any words in the book that the students might not be aware of Anticipatory Set: The teacher will introduce timelines and use the very first activity as an example of a timeline. The teacher will then do a book walk of When I was Five with the students and then do a read aloud. Procedures: 1.The teacher will introduce timelines and go over the vocabulary 2.The teacher will do the anticipatory set 3.Read aloud/ Discuss how the book relates to our unit 4.The students will get their own timeline and will individually complete the activity (Since this will be a summative assessment, the teacher will not demonstrate how to do it, only give directions. 5.The students, if time, will then write a sentence for each picture. (The teacher can assist with this part) Assessment/Evaluation: *The summative assessment for this lesson is students will create an All About Me timeline, including things from their past, present and their future (They will combine everything they have learned throughout the unit and create a timeline of their life) The students will be evaluated individually and they will need to demonstrate their understanding of each term. This is an important assessment/strategy because it demonstrates student understanding that things change through time and it also shows that they can connect this idea to ideas for the future.
